On the website
The chat sits open at the bottom of every page of this website, over whatever you read; its bar minimises it and opens it again. Drag the bar up to undock it, then move it anywhere and resize it from its corner; drop it at the bottom edge to dock it again. It stays where you left it.
When you open it, the chat asks first: Log in with your Project Lage account (it comes with an alpha invite) to chat with your name, badges and friends list, or Post as guest to chat as Guest and four digits: guests can ask in the Help channel only; the other channels, whispers, friends and badges need an account. It is the same chat as in the game: you talk with players on the website and in their games alike.
Each channel you are in has its own tab, next to All, Whispers and System; the Help tab is always there and joins Help when you click it. A number on a tab counts new lines; with All open, channel tabs don't count lines you already see there. All keeps to real talk: friends coming online or entering a game show only under System. + joins a channel and the × on a tab leaves it. Click a name to whisper, add a friend, see who it is, squelch or report. Type / and the matching commands show; Tab completes commands and names, ↑ brings back what you sent.
A line can be longer than the game's 200 characters: paste or type up to 2000 and the chat sends it as several messages in a row, cut between words where it can, whispers and Market messages too.
Whisper tabs: everyone you whisper with gets a tab with their name, a green dot while they are online and a number for new whispers; type in it to whisper them. Whispering a player who is offline works too: it waits in your tab for them, Market messages included, for 7 days. When you come back, the tabs show what came while you were away, and the game tells you who whispered when you enter a game (/r answers the last one). The × closes a whisper tab until that player whispers again.
Friends tab: your friends chat. What you type there goes to every friend who is online (like /f m), and it shows those messages and your whispers with friends. A friend's message arrives as a whisper, so /r answers it.
The buttons above the chat open who is online, your friends list (add, order, notes, a message to every online friend), your badges, every command and your chat look: text size, times, badges, friend notices, compact lines, a sound on whispers and the colour of each kind of line. The look is kept in your browser.
Your account name
Want another name for your Project Lage account, a Chinese one for example? Ask an admin (in the Help channel or on Discord). Once they allow it, the website asks you for the new name the next time you open it signed in, and the game reminds you when you enter a game. Your characters, items, friends, badges and Market listings stay with you; you sign in with the new name from then on (the old one still works, and nobody else can take it).
In the game
Sign in in the launcher and the chat is on. Press Enter like for the game's own chat and type a command: /c hello says hello in your chat channel, /w Name hi whispers, /f add Name adds a friend. Text without a / stays the game's own chat with the players in your game. New lines show at the bottom left and fade; Ctrl + C keeps the last lines on screen.
Badges show in front of names, with tabs, /opt, /j and the other commands typed in the game. Whispers, friend messages and /f m also go into the game's own chat box at the bottom left, where the game shows its own messages; the channels (the website chat) join them after /opt channel on, and /opt channel off takes them out again.
At the start of each game the chat box shows one tip, a different one each time, so you pick things up as you play: the chat commands for channels, whispers and friends, /opt channel on, hotkeys, maps, the ladder, the Market, the wiki, our Discord and the Project Lage Guide.
Channels
Everyone is in Global. Trade, Help, English, German and Chinese are always open to join, and /j with any other name opens your own channel; it closes when the last player leaves. You can be in 5 channels besides Global. Your friends list holds 50 players; like on Battle.net you see where a friend is once they added you back.
English, German and Chinese are channels for talking in your own language: /j en, /j de or /j cn (/j 中文 works too) in the game, or their tabs in the website chat.
Your default channel is where the website chat opens and what the game shows (Look panel, or /default de). The language you pick when you ask for an alpha invite sets it the first time; older accounts are asked once. The website chat itself shows in English, German or Chinese (Look panel, or /lang zh).
The website chat's tabs are yours to set up: click the open tab for the list of every chat (each channel, whispers, friend messages, trade, system messages) and tick what it shows. + makes a new tab, for example whispers only, English only or one with every chat. Drag a tab to move it to another spot. Help always has its own tab.

|---|---|---|---|
| Owner | “I made this world. Welcome to it.” | Runs Project Lage. | |
| Admin | “Keeper of the ladder.” | A Project Lage admin. | |
| Ladder Champion | “Nobody stood above me when the season closed.” | Rank 1 on the softcore or the hardcore ladder when a season ended. | |
| First Tester | “We are the Number One here.” | One of the first two players who ever tested Project Lage. | |
| Phoenix | “One of the twenty who carried Project Lage through the fire.” | One of at most 20 players who support Project Lage on Patreon at the Phoenix level. | |

Gifts: every badge you can buy (Supporter passes, Founder and the rune badges) can also be bought for another player. Pick how it shows: a small “gift from” line with your name, “gift” without your name, or no gift mark at all, as if they bought it themselves.

Trading on the Market
The Market on this website is where ladder players trade. It is new and open to every ladder account for testing: report anything odd with /report in the chat. Sign in with your Project Lage account (it comes with an alpha invite). My items shows what your ladder characters wear and carry, their stash and your shared stash, the way the server last saved them, so play a ladder game to bring it up to date. Items in the belt, the charm inventory or the Horadric Cube, or on the mercenary, stay off the Market.
Pick an item, choose its price in runes and list it, with a note if you like (what else you would take, say). Softcore and hardcore are separate markets (the Market remembers which you picked), and so is each season; you can have up to 60 open listings per league. Market shows everyone else's listings: search by name, property, seller or price, and sort by newest, cheapest or sellers who are online; a unique or runeword and a base go together, to find one in the base you want. Instant trade buys an item for its price; when the seller is online, the list shows Whisper instead, to write to them and trade in the game, and Instant trade waits under Details. Counter offer sends the seller an offer in runes, which they accept or decline. A red rune in a price is one your Runes tab lacks. Your runes under the Market bar shows your Runes tab, and My trades shows a red count when offers wait on you; its History lists what you sold, bought or took down in the last 14 days, and Your offers & trades lists your offers and waiting instant trades, which you can call off there. Click a listed item under My items to see its price, change it or take it down. The list starts compact, one line per listing with its price as rune pictures (the number on a rune is how many), seller and first properties; Details shows every listing in full, and the Market remembers your pick. Seller: Online now leaves out players who aren't in the chat.
Watchers: set the filters for what you're after and press Add Watcher under them. Give it a tab name, pick the league, how often it looks for new listings (every 5, 10 or 60 seconds) and its sound. You can have 2 watchers per season, each with its own tab next to My trades; hover the tab to see its filters. While the Market is open in your browser, a new listing that matches plays the sound and adds to the count on the tab. Open the tab to see everything it finds, the new ones marked New. Settings in the tab change its name, time and sound, or remove it.
Trade sound: the sound for offers, answers and trade messages can be turned on, picked and tried out at the top of the Market page, next to your name. It's the same setting as in the chat's Trade tab, and its volume counts for the chat's sounds too.
Price checks: uniques, set items, runewords, runes and gems show what they sold for lately on the Market. When you list one, the form shows the cheapest one other players list now, with Use this price to take it over. Rares, magic items and bases differ too much from one to the next to compare.
High rune value (HR): every price and counter offer also shows what its runes are worth in high runes, the way D2R players price trades: a Ber or a Jah is 1 HR. So 2 Vex and a Gul (0.88 HR) and a Lo (0.6 HR) compare at a glance, and sorting by price uses it. While you pick the runes of a counter offer, the form adds them up against the price. Every listing shows its 2 best offers in HR (in the compact list on the line under the name, with what you offered), so you see what others bid; who made them stays between them and the seller. The values: Jah 1, Ber 1, Zod 0.6, Lo 0.6, Sur 0.5, Cham 0.5, Ohm 0.45, Vex 0.35, Gul 0.18, Ist 0.1, Mal 0.05, Um 0.03, Pul 0.02 HR; lower runes are worth next to nothing.
A Market trade is an instant trade: once you both have closed D2R, the server moves the item into the buyer's shared stash and the runes from the buyer's Runes tab into the seller's. If the item is no longer in the seller's saves by then, the request is removed and the buyer gets a notice. If a player's launcher didn't get to say that the game closed (window closed, crash, PC off), the trade still goes through ten minutes after their game last saved and was last seen. A listing closes by itself once the item is no longer in any of your saves of that league (traded, dropped, or your hardcore hero died); take it down under My trades any time. Report a problem with /report in the chat.
Trading rules: the Market is the official place to trade, so please use it where you can. Trading through other sites such as d2jsp with their own forum currency is allowed, at your own risk. Buying or selling items, characters, runes or services for real money is forbidden, on the Market and everywhere else; accounts involved lose their ladder characters.
